I have been writing since I was a child and greatly influenced quite early on by many genres of music and musicians. I developed a deep love for music and gravitated towards radio as a career when I was nineteen years old. Radio helped to build my confidence and personality and that in turn pushed me to hone my skills as a writer and to begin singing with local bands. I am inspired by the sounds and styles of artists like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Kanye West and Tanya Stephens, I love listening to them.
I have had to overcome many obstacles in my personal life, all of which have made me a stronger and more focused individual. My life experiences are often laid bare, woven into the tapestry of my work. Though many of those experiences were negative, I hope to inspire those who have been through similar to not feel limited or unworthy because of that.
In 2006 I performed at Moonsplash, the annual reggae music festival in Anguilla, opening for Bankie Banx and the Roots and Herbs who were performing a highly anticipated reunion show. Later that year I did a summer acting course at RADA and then went on to the Edinburgh Fringe where I performed a Spoken Word show titled, No Truer Words Move, which ran for the duration of the festival. As a promotion for No Truer Words Move, I released an album under the same title featuring tracks from the show and a documentary about myself.
At the moment, my new Album, Truthfully Rude: Words & Vibes is set to be released on March 21st, 2009. The album is as it states a compilation of Words and Vibes. Words at the top, about life, friendships, heritage and societies. At the bottom, Vibes; reggae, zouk and my own flavour splashed throughout. A new sound, with a healthy dose of truth.
